The short answer
Read the bed's care label to see whether the cover, insert or entire item is washable. Remove loose fur, use the permitted cycle and products, and dry every washable part fully before reassembly. Check machine capacity for bulky bedding. Keep another suitable resting place available while the bed is being cleaned.
Identify what the label actually allows
A removable cover does not establish that the filling can be machine washed. Look for separate instructions for each part. Some inserts require a different cleaning method or should not be submerged. Take a photograph of the assembly before removing covers if putting them back is not obvious.
Check the material, fastenings and any nonslip backing for damage. A split seam can release filling in the machine or later in use. Repair only with an appropriate method or replace the damaged part before returning it to a dog who may chew exposed material.
Prepare the bed before loading the machine
Remove loose fur with a suitable fabric-safe tool or vacuum attachment, following the bedding instructions. Clear toys, food and other objects from folds or pockets. Our pet-hair laundry routine covers why this preparation helps manage repeated transfer.
A Large Plush Dog Crate Mat needs its own care directions. Compare the bulky item's size with your machine's capacity; do not force it into the drum simply because it fits through the door. Use appropriate external laundry services when your home equipment cannot handle it.
Wash by the fabric and product directions
Choose the cycle, temperature and detergent allowed by the label. Do not increase heat or add disinfectant without compatibility information and a reason to do so. If the dog has sensitive skin or specific care needs, ask for individual advice on suitable products.
For routine scheduling, the CDC lists weekly cleaning for pet beds and blankets, with earlier cleaning when needed. The bed's own care instructions still control the method. Visible dirt, wetness or illness can call for a different professional cleaning recommendation.
Dry the filling as well as the surface
Use only the permitted dryer setting or air-drying method. Check thick areas, seams and the center of washable padding. A dry cover can hide a damp insert. Do not close the cover and put the bed back into a crate while moisture remains inside.
Allow adequate airflow when air drying and turn components only as their construction allows. If the care label gives no workable drying method for a bulky washable item, ask the seller before washing it. Fast reassembly is not worth a persistently damp resting surface.
Keep the sleeping routine familiar
While the bedding dries, offer another suitable dry resting option in the usual quiet place. A Soft Pet Blanket can help with rotation if it suits your dog's chewing habits and the surface underneath. Read choosing a pet blanket for coverage and care checks.
Reassemble only when every part is clean, dry and intact. Clean the area beneath the bed too, following floor instructions. A practical laundry rotation lets the dog rest comfortably while you maintain the bedding, without leaving yesterday's damp items piled in the sleeping corner.
