The short answer
Remove loose hair before putting clothes in the machine, wash and dry by each garment's care label, and clean appliance filters as the manufacturer directs. A lint roller or suitable reusable brush can help with surface hair, but neither fits every fabric. Do not add improvised dryer cycles or products that conflict with the care instructions.
Separate clothing by fabric care
Check the label before choosing a removal method. A robust cotton shirt and a delicate knit should not be rubbed with the same force or tool. Separate heavily furry washable items from garments needing different care so you can prepare each appropriately.
Keep a clean surface for the finished clothing. Removing fur and then laying the shirt on the pet's favorite cushion simply restarts the task. A closed wardrobe or a clean laundry basket can matter as much as another pass with the roller.
Lift loose surface hair before the wash
Use a Pet Hair Lint Roller or another suitable tool on fabric that tolerates it. Work with gentle contact and check a hidden area first. Replace adhesive sheets when they stop collecting effectively rather than pressing harder with a full sheet.
A Reusable Pet Hair Brush has its own intended surfaces and direction of use. Follow those instructions and test on the garment. Keep the clothing supported while working so edges and seams are not stretched. Do not use a rough scraper on delicate fibers.
Follow the garment and appliance instructions
Wash with the cycle and products permitted by the garment label and machine instructions. Do not add a hot wash solely to tackle fur when the clothing requires cool water. Avoid packing the drum beyond the machine's stated capacity, especially with bulky pet-related laundry.
Hair can remain after washing, so inspect before choosing the next step. A fabric-safe surface pass may still be needed. The goal is clean wearable clothing, not an unsupported promise that one cycle or accessory removes every strand of hair.
Dry only in a way the garment permits
If a dryer is suitable, use the allowed setting and maintain the lint filter by the manufacturer's instructions. Air-dry items that require it. Do not put dry-clean-only or heat-sensitive garments through an improvised tumble cycle because it is recommended in a general pet-hair tip.
Keep finished laundry away from exposed pet bedding. For large blankets and covers, our dog-bedding washing guide covers checking capacity and complete drying. Those bulky items may need a different routine from everyday clothing.
Reduce the transfer points around the home
Store outdoor clothing away from the pet's resting places and give heavily used upholstered areas their own cleanup routine. See removing hair from a sofa for fabric-safe testing and vacuuming. You do not need to keep your pet off every shared space to make laundry manageable.
Clean the clothing brush, put away spare roller sheets and inspect the appliance filters regularly as instructed. Keep expectations practical: this routine reduces loose surface hair and repeated transfer, while ordinary shedding remains part of life with a furry companion.
